Marc-Alexander is co-founder of leading mobile payment company SumUp. He has raised over $50 million to date from partners such as Groupon, Lakestar and BBVA. Marc has established SumUp as one of the leading payment companies worldwide, with a presence in 16 countries including Germany, Brazil and the U.S. Marc, and most recently led the acquisition of Rocket Internet’s Payleven.

Marc has extensive experience in the startup world. Prior to co-founding SumUp, Marc founded MIOSATO – The Online Fashion Gallery and led the sales department of Groupon/Citydeal in the early days of the company.

Marc started his career in investment banking, first at European Investors in New York and later as Vice President at JPMorgan in London and Frankfurt. Marc holds a Master of Arts in International Business as well as a Doctorandus de Bedrijfswetenschappen from the University of Maastricht.

The SumUp card terminal and app allow small merchants to accept credit and debit cards, using their smartphones or tablets, in a simple, secure and cost-effective way. SumUp’s solution is built on proprietary end-to-end EMV payment technology, terminal hardware, and mobile applications. SumUp only charges a simple, low percentage fee per card transaction. The company is authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and is Europay, MasterCard, and Visa (EMV) and PCI-DSS certified.
